A yellow or light brown tea like color in your water can be caused by tannins which come from decaying organic material.
It can be commonly found in surface water and can also be found in natural deposits in the earth.
A yellow color can also sometimes be caused by the water softener. If left to sit in the heat for a period of time without running any water or recharging the resin in the water softener can “throw color”. This is nothing to worry about and will usually clear up very quickly by running the water for a while or initiating an imediate recharge.

The Maximum Contaminent Level for Chlorine is 4 mg/L.
The potential health effect of drinking water with excess amounts of chlorine is cancer.
The normal source of chlorine in your water is the addition of chlorine to the water supply as a disinfectant.
